HOW TO YBK: LESSON PLAN
New year, new stories
 
If you still have space to fill and your staff is running out of story ideas, you’re not alone. Trust us — we’ve been there.
 
Try this: Dedicate a class period to a brainstorming session. Use this mini-poster as a prompt and to get the conversation started. Break into small groups and set a goal for new story ideas. Let students sift through social media and news sites. Consider dividing ideas into umbrella topics, rating them by their importance and “shelf-life” and then assigning space based on those ratings.
