HOW TO YBK
Let the YBK Day prep begin!

Last week, we introduced a new suite of resources to help you plan for an amazing yearbook distribution day. If you missed it, click here. One thing that makes distribution day worth the extra effort is making sure that as many students as possible have actually bought a yearbook. Every book you sell is another invitation to the party.

And we know you have been selling books since registration and at back-to-school night and at sporting events, but don’t give up. Check your sales dashboard on MyHJYearbook.com and, if you have bunches of books to sell, it’s time to get to work.

BOOK SALES IDEAS

> You’re in the Yearbook postcards: Order these from YearbookDiscoveries.com. Run a coverage report and sort by non-buyers, or if you are using InDesign, compare your index with the non-buyers report in eBusiness.
> Bathroom stall ads: Make signs for the inside of every bathroom stall. Try to be funny but tasteful. Use attention-grabbing photos.
> Target audiences: From finished spreads, choose 10 casual photos that include lots of students — a crowd shot is a great example — and post them around the school. Make signage with a “We’ve got you covered” message and post around the school.
> Healthy competition: Stage book sales contests between grades. Assign staffers to each grade and have them work in groups to increase sales. The winner is the team that sees the highest percentage increase.
> Advertise: Make a presentation of some of your favorite photos from the book. Project it at lunches and set up a table for book sales.
> Get in their spaces: Sidewalk chalk, banners and signs, spell out Buy a Book with disposable cups in the chain link fences surrounding campus.
> Get in their faces: Moms’ faces on Facebook and Instagram. Moms are your principal buyers. Slow that scroll and send them to YearbookOrderCenter.com with a campaign that appeals to their desire to capture their children’s precious memories.
> Don’t forget your teacher friends: Consider offering a special discount to teachers. Sell books to them directly.
> Grab attention at orientation: When parents are coming in to learn about high school life (and when fifth-grader moms are touring the middle school), set up an information table with books on display. It’s probably too early to put orders in for next year’s book but you can have them put their name down to be contacted later.
