HOW TO YBK
What to do with extra books? Sell them!

When you get your yearbooks, there’s a chance you will have extra books from the plant or you may still have books to sell.
Check out our handy collection of FAQs for dealing with overruns.
WAYS TO MAKE LAST-MINUTE SALES

• The coronavirus closures messed a lot of things up, and your last-minute sales may be included. There’s a really good chance that some students and parents really regret not getting one. If you’ve shifted to a later delivery, you can probably still sell your extras.
• You may want to consider raising money to provide some students with a free yearbook. There are several ways to do this, such as setting up a GoFundMe page or setting up a free book in eBusiness and accepting donations through the Yearbook Order Center. Maybe the PTA/PTO or a booster club would like to get involved. This can be a sticky subject, though, so make sure to seek input from colleagues on how this should work.
• Think of all of the groups in your community that would benefit from having a yearbook on display – real estate offices, the chamber of commerce, visitor/tourism centers, recruiting offices in corporations large and small. Assign each staffer two or three places to call. Here's a script.
• Use social media to your advantage. Get the word out to grandmas, aunts and uncles. Consider using very concrete information — “We have 15 books left, and no more will be available.” When you successfully sell every book, make sure to promote your sell-out. You may see a bump in your next book’s sales as a result.
• Run a list of non-buying seniors (or eighth graders) and reach out to those people with a personal email. Something like this: Some years, it’s still possible to buy a yearbook after we begin distribution, but we’ve sold out. Luckily, for you, the plant sent us [#] production overruns and we’re offering them to the parents of seniors first.
READY FOR DISTRIBUTION DAY?

We have updated our distribution day resources to include all sorts of help for getting your books out. Here are even more pro tips:
• When your books arrive, make sure to hold onto any paperwork. Take pictures with your phone if you can’t keep the original.
• Have a safe, secure place for books to be stored until YBK Day.
• Have a plan for getting the books into the building. Book boxes can weigh a lot (like 50 lbs).
• Plan the big reveal with your whole staff present. After all that work, it’s great to treat your staff to this special moment.
