We know you have a lot of information to absorb as the school year gets underway, so we built a new space on the HJ Curriculum page just for the newest and the most 2021-ready resources we have to offer. We’re so excited to launch the Pivot Project — and we’re just getting started.
CHECK OUT THESE THREE THINGS
• Who does what? With crazy schedules, we’ve heard that some advisers are doing away with the typical staff roles and job descriptions. Perhaps an editorial board would be better for this year. In any case, there’s only one right way, and that’s the way that works best for your staff, your school, your goals and your year.
• Who knows your business? During the first weeks of school, it’s a great idea to make an appointment with your administrator — even though you are both supremely busy — to take 30 minutes and kick the year off right. Here’s a list to take with you.
• Who is waving the white flag? Maybe you’re new to yearbook or maybe you’re just overwhelmed. Take a sec to read this. Set some SIMPLE goals for the year, and don’t forget to breathe. Keep reminding yourself — it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
SALES SPOTLIGHT
Ready for ad sales? Make sure you kick off ad sales right by preparing your students to make the pitch. Check out this role play activity to help them with their communication skills.
If you sold out last year, make sure to include that information as you coach your staffers to sell. Remind potential advertisers of the value of celebrating everything that is good about the school year. Connect the yearbook with a sense of belonging, coming together in tough times and school spirit.
