Help with headlines |

Some early-year lessons bear repeating if your staff is struggling, and headline-writing always seems to be a lost art when deadlines are looming. They seem so easy, but writing good headlines is a skill that many staffers struggle to master. |

You don’t want them to be too cheesy or cliché. (How many years in a row have you used “Just keep swimming” for the swim team?) You should generally avoid song and movie titles, but they have to be relatable and puns are appreciated. Here’s a written resource to help with headline-writing and a quick video, just in case your staff is stuck in a rut (and they still have unsubmitted pages.) |

Send and Sell can be used for lots of things — ad sales, book sales, deadline reminders for submitting photos and senior quotes — but you have to have email addresses in order to send emails. |

If you’re struggling in this area, consider ways to gather email addresses and permission to use them. Could you distribute a Google Form through senior English classes? Could you put a link on social media asking if people want a reminder of the book sales deadline? One thing’s for sure: You have to be creative sometimes. |

And this year, especially, you have to actually pester people to get their attention. It’s a different year, for sure. |
