Winter break is behind us. Final deadlines are near. The hustle of production may be bogging you down.
It’s time to refocus your staffers and use this coming week to share the love in your classroom. As Nelson Mandela said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” Take a minute, practice self-care and reinforce the concept with this video.
Need help taking a time out? Here are a few ideas:
• Remind your staffers of the important job they have with this classic video.
• Blast to the past and take your staff back to elementary school with DIY valentines. Give staffers a chance to share what they appreciate about each classmate.
• Celebrate your staffers’ successes. Paper plate awards are always a popular option. Just get cheap plates and markers, and have editors make up and present awards. It's amazing what a 10-minute time out for celebration can do for morale.
• Start planning for distribution day. It may seem a long way off, but better to get it on the calendar — plus it's something to look forward to. Check out these resources.
CHECK OUT THESE THREE THINGS
Reminders before you enter final deadline season:
1. Prepare for what’s to come on these monthly checklists or use them as a catch up on what you may have missed.
2. Plan out a sales push before Distribution Day. Get creative with bathroom stall ads, sidewalk chalk and hallway flyers. Don’t let your buyers miss out while you try to sell out.
3. Get ready for Scholastic Journalism Week on Feb. 21-25. See their daily challenges to remind your school community the importance of scholastic journalism.
