HOW TO YBK: LESSON PLAN
Getting the hang of eDesign
 
If you have staffers who are new to eDesign, here’s an assignment that will give them a structured walk through the program with guided notes for the tutorials. Go to herff.ly/answerkeys and make it a grade. If you’re using InDesign, there’s a similar activity for your students.
 
CHECK OUT THESE THREE THINGS, TOO
  1. Get buzzing in eBiz: I It’s time to get your eBusiness ducks in a row. Go to myhjyearbook.com. Click Setup > Setup Sales. Click the Help banner whenever you need it.

  2. Fill in your calendar: Are you using the calendar poster from the kit? (Find the yellow and white box in your classroom.) Make sure you are capturing the important events of the early school year and assigning photographers and writers to get down all of the details.

  3. Make an appointment: Back-to-school is busy for everyone, but there are a few essentials you need to get straight with your administration. Not sure where to start? Your new BFFs may be the assistants in the main office. They can help you! Take this list with you.
 
SALES SPOTLIGHT
Building a reputation for your program is part of building your yearbook brand. Here’s a way to get started: Parkway West High School (MO) adviser Debra Klevins shared this great idea. She has her students make business cards and has them printed using an online vendor for less than $10 for 100 cards. They use the cards when they set up interviews and when they ask for story ideas. They also hand them out at events to remind parents to purchase a yearbook.
